Mojácar

Mojácar Council will guarantee the construction of VPO (social housing) in the municipality through the sale of municipal plots

Vigente.

The government team regrets that PSOE uses lies to confuse the people of Mojácar: “In the municipality, they are now used to PSOE making noise instead of working”.

The Mojácar Municipal Government categorically rejects the accusations made by the Socialist Municipal Group regarding the sale of municipal plots and considers these claims to lack any technical, legal or urban planning basis.

In the plenary session held on the 29th of January, the Socialist Group itself publicly acknowledged its lack of knowledge about the administrative file and the technical information supporting the operation. During the plenary debate, the Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García, repeatedly asked the PSOE representatives whether the press release issued by their group had been prepared maliciously or due to a lack of knowledge of the facts. Following several interventions, the Socialist councillors finally admitted that they had made their statements without a thorough understanding of the record.

The mayor was emphatic: “The municipal government acts with transparency, responsibility, and rigour. It cannot be allowed that the public is misled or that baseless accusations are made to generate social alarm.” Francisco García added that “the opposition has the right to disagree, but not to lie or to spread rumours to confuse residents.”

The municipal government reiterates that the plot of land being sold is part of Mojácar's Municipal Land Assets, but that current territorial and urban planning regulations stipulate that its designated use is for the construction of housing for sale on the open market. This fact is recorded in the technical and urban planning documentation in the file.

In this context, the sale is not only legal but also part of a responsible management strategy for public land assets. The sale will generate financial resources that will be allocated to housing policies, strengthening the Local Council's capacity to subsequently acquire more suitable land for the development of social housing.

The municipal government stresses that the income generated from the sale of these plots will not be used for current expenses, but rather to improve the municipality's land assets. That is, allocating these resources to promote housing policies and the acquisition of more suitable land for the development of social housing.

Hence, the operation allows for linking urban development with a public housing strategy aimed at expanding the offer of affordable housing and responding to a long-standing demand in the municipality.

"This is precisely the opposite of what the PSOE claims: we are not abandoning affordable housing; we are creating the economic and urban planning conditions to promote it," pointed out Francisco García.

The mayor expressed his regret that the Socialist Group had issued a press release with serious accusations without having first reviewed the file documentation. "The PSOE itself admitted in the plenary session itself that it was speaking without knowing the information. This is very serious and demonstrates a lack of rigour incompatible with the responsibility required for municipal politics," he affirmed.

Francisco García insisted that “not everything goes in politics” and asked PSOE to act responsibly: “You can't play games with land management nor with residents' housing expectations for political gain.”

Francisco García concluded with a direct message to the opposition: “We ask PSOE for rigour, responsibility and respect for the truth. You can't lie to the public or create confusion with false information. Mojácar deserves a serious political debate, based on facts and not on rumours.”

The Mojácar municipal government reaffirms its commitment to transparency, legality, and the defence of the public interest, and will continue to provide clear and detailed information on all actions related to urban planning and municipal land assets.
