Mojácar Council has signed a collaboration agreement with the Illustrious Almería Official College of Veterinarians for the management and maintenance of the Municipal Register of Companion Animals through the RAIA system (Andalucian Animal Identification Registry), also including a specific module for the management of feline colonies.
This agreement will allow for the improvement of the control, identification, and monitoring of companion animals in the municipality, facilitating more efficient and coordinated management, as well as advancing the ethical population control of community cats.
The Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García, welcomed the signing of this agreement, highlighting that “this agreement represents a significant step forward for the municipality, as it allows us to improve the management of companion animals and feline colonies, guaranteeing their well-being and at the same time strengthening public health and harmonious coexistence in our surroundings.”
The president of the Almería Official College of Veterinarians, Yasmina Domínguez, underlined the importance of this agreement for the municipality: “This step reinforces our shared commitment to a professional, responsible, and coordinated management of the identification and registration of companion animals and feline colonies. With the incorporation of tools such as the Andalucian Animal Identification Registry (RAIA), Mojácar not only improves health control and traceability, but also moves towards an ethical management model for feline colonies based on technical criteria, animal welfare, and public health.”
Among the main actions included in the agreement are the creation and comprehensive management of the Municipal Registry, the processing and storage of data, coordination with the regional registry, and the incorporation of a specific module that will allow for the location, identification, and monitoring of feline colonies within the municipality.
In addition, the College of Veterinarians will provide technical advice, training for municipal staff, and support in implementing protocols for the management of companion animals and urban fauna.
Present at the meeting for the signing of the agreement were, together with the Mayor, members of the municipal government team, as well as the secretary of the Almería Official College of Veterinarians, Alberto Consuegra.
The agreement will have an initial term of four years, renewable for another four, and represents a further step in Mojácar Council's commitment to animal protection, the responsible management of urban fauna, and the improvement of public services related to animal welfare.
