Mojácar Council has held the official ceremony to raise the six Blue Flags that will fly this summer on the beaches of Marina de la Torre, El Descargador, Piedra Villazar, El Cantal, Lance Nuevo, and Venta del Bancal–Ventanicas. The addition of Piedra Villazar means a sixth Blue Flag, a new recognition that consolidates Mojácar as one of the leading tourist destinations on the Andalucian coast and reinforces its commitment to quality, sustainability, and excellence in the management of its coastline.
Attending the ceremony were the Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García Cerdá; the Tourism Councillor, María Gracia Alarcón García; and the Junta de Andalucía’s territorial delegate for Tourism, Culture and Sport in Almería, Juan José Alonso, as well as members of the municipal corporation and Town Hall technical staff.
The Blue Flags, awarded by the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), distinguish those beaches that meet the highest standards in water quality, safety, accessibility, services, environmental information and sustainable management, making them one of the most prestigious international recognitions in coastal management.
"This year we take another step forward by achieving a sixth Blue Flag with the addition of Piedra Villazar beach. It is a recognition that highlights the continuous work we carry out throughout the year to offer safe, accessible and top-quality beaches. Behind each flag there is a significant effort by municipal workers, concessionary companies and all the professionals involved in looking after our coastline," said the mayor, Francisco García Cerdá.
In addition to the Blue Flags, Mojácar has this year once again obtained the Q for Tourism Quality and S for Tourism Sustainability certifications for the Marina de la Torre, Lance Nuevo, and Venta del Bancal–Ventanicas beaches, awarded by the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality and Sustainability (ICTES). These distinctions certify excellence in the provision of services, continuous improvement, and the municipality's commitment to a sustainable and environmentally friendly tourism model.
New for 2026, the Mojácar Municipal Tourist Office has for the first time obtained the Q for Tourism Quality and S for Tourism Sustainability certifications, a recognition that accredits the quality of visitor service and the Local Council's commitment to offering an increasingly more professional, efficient, and excellence-oriented service.
The municipality also continues to be part of the Comprehensive System for Tourism Quality in Destinations (SICTED), a tool that promotes continuous improvement and collaboration between administrations and businesses to further enhance the destination's competitiveness.
"Receiving these awards demonstrates that the quality of tourism in Mojácar goes far beyond our beaches. Achieving the Q and S certifications for the Tourist Office for the first time represents a very important step in continuing to offer excellent service from the first contact a visitor has with our municipality," highlighted the Tourism Councillor, María Gracia Alarcón García.
The Junta de Andalucía’s territorial delegate for Tourism, Culture and Sport in Almería, Juan José Alonso, congratulated the municipality on these recognitions and underlined Mojácar's commitment to a tourism model based on quality, sustainability, and continuous improvement, consolidating the municipality as one of the province’s leading tourist destinations.
With nearly 17 kilometres of coastline, combining urban beaches equipped with all services and natural areas of great scenic value, Mojácar approaches a new summer season reinforcing its position as one of the most prominent destinations on the Almería coast.
Gaining these six Blue Flags, the renewal of the Q for Quality and S for Sustainability certifications for three beaches, and the attainment, for the first time, of these same distinctions for the Municipal Tourist Office, reaffirm the Local Council's commitment to a tourism model based on excellence, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
