Mojácar Council has presented the “Sustainable Mojácar” campaign, an initiative forming part of the Tourism Destination Sustainability Plan, with which the municipality is reinforcing its commitment to a more environmentally friendly, innovative tourism model focused on improving the quality of life for residents and visitors.

The event was held at Mojácar Playa’s Hotel Puntazo and brought together institutional representatives, tourism sector professionals, and members of Mojácar’s community. Attending the event was Carlos Sánchez, Deputy for the Presidency and Promotion, who spoke during the presentation on behalf of the provincial government, and Mª José Herrada, the Almería Provincial Council Deputy for Tourism.

During the event, several videos were shown highlighting the project's main lines of action, as well as the measures the Local Council is promoting to move towards a more sustainable, accessible, and innovative destination.

The project involves the development of infrastructure and services that facilitate cycling for both residents and visitors, promoting a cleaner means of transportation and contributing to reducing the destination's carbon footprint. This initiative also aims to highlight the value of Mojácar's natural environment and encourage a more peaceful and sustainable way to explore the municipality and its coastline.

In addition, the plan includes initiatives designed to improve urban spaces and make them more people-friendly, with the creation of new shaded areas, children's areas, and urban traffic management measures. In also includes actions aimed at protecting the natural environment, such as planting native vegetation, channelling rainwater, and coastal regeneration projects.

These actions are also part of the modernisation process that the municipality has been developing in recent years, incorporating technology and smart systems to improve tourism management and the experience of residents and visitors.

During his speech, the Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García Cerdá, highlighted the importance of this project for the future of the municipality: “Mojácar is a destination with enormous natural and cultural wealth, and we have a responsibility to preserve it. With this campaign, we want to move towards a sustainable tourism model that protects our environment, improves the quality of life of our residents, and ensures that future generations can continue enjoying this unique place.”

The mayor also emphasized that the municipality continues to back innovation and sustainability as fundamental pillars for its development, allowing for balanced and responsible planning of tourism growth.

Carlos Sánchez, Deputy for the Presidency and Promotion of the Province, highlighted Mojácar's role within the provincial tourism sector and the value of these types of initiatives: "It is an honour to take part in the launch of 'Sustainable Mojácar.' Mojácar is, without doubt, one of the jewels in the crown of the 'Costa de Almería' destination and an emblem of tourism excellence based on our natural wealth and the talent of our professionals. The municipality is consolidating its leadership by committing to innovation, digitalisation, and smart urban management focused on data. Projects such as the new cycle tracks, the protection of the coastline, and the interactive infrastructure not only improve the visitor experience but also demonstrate the excellent work that Fran and his government team are doing to position Mojácar as a benchmark for sustainability."

The event concluded with the presentation of the 2026 Golden Indalo to Ricardo Escudero, long-time area director for the Servigroup hotel chain in Mojácar.
