Vigente.

The Mojácar Carnival was finally celebrated on Sunday, 15th of February, with a grand parade that filled Mojácar Playa with colour, music and fun, on a day marked by mass participation and an unbeatable festive atmosphere.

From early on, many residents and visitors gathered to enjoy the parade, accompanied by fantastic weather that enabled everyone to fully enjoy the troupes’ performances, choreographies, and dances, turning the route into a true open-air party.

After the parade, the celebration continued at the Multi-Uses Centre, where the public enjoyed a lively afternoon of music and performances by the chirigota carnival groups Los Chonis and “Cuéntame Quién Nos Juntó”.

As to the parade and dance competition, the jury awarded the following prizes:

  1. Third place: Timanfaya
  2. Second place: La Última Fusión
  3. First place: Kimera

The Mayor of Mojácar, Francisco García, highlighted that “Carnival is one of the best-loved celebrations in our municipality, and this year we were able to celebrate it with many people taking part and an extraordinary atmosphere.” He also expressed his gratitude for “the effort of the carnival groups, the involvement of residents, and the presence of the public, who were key to the success of this year's event.”

Where the Burial of the Sardine is concerned, which will take place this Wednesday, 18th of February at the Multi-Uses Centre at 8.30pm, the Mayor noted that “This event brings Carnival to a close and is a deeply rooted tradition in Mojácar that we want to continue preserving and sharing with everyone.” García added that “it will be a day of community spirit, when residents and visitors will be able to bid farewell to Carnival together, also enjoying the traditional burning of the sardine and a popular hot chocolate for everyone who’s there.

Mojácar Council invites everyone to take part in this final event of Carnival and to continue enjoying festivities that strengthen community spirit and the municipality’s identity.
